SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- The Master's College scored a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes to hand Biola University a 2-1 loss in the Golden State Athletic Conference men's soccer season opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon in Santa Clarita.
The Eagles fall to 4-5-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in the GSAC while the Mustangs improve to 5-0-3 and 1-0-0 in conference.
Sophomore Derek Friehe got Biola on the scoreboard in the 36th minute, scoring on a breakaway to put the Eagles up 1-0.
The Eagles continued to stand strong against The Master's offense through the first 75 minutes. However, in the 76th minute the Mustangs tied the score as Joe Barnes finally found the back of the net.
Just under five minutes later, The Master's Syian Wignal scored the match-winner on a brilliant cross.
The Mustangs outshot the Eagles 11-2 in the second half and held a 14-10 edge in the game.
Biola netminder Tyler Higgins made seven saves on the night while The Master's made eight saves.
Biola returns home on Tuesday (Sept. 25) to host Vanguard University in a GSAC matchup at 7:00 p.m.
