LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Four different players scored goals for Cal State San Marcos and the Cougars held Biola University to just five shots in handing the Eagles a surprising 4-0 home loss in a non-conference match on Thursday night at Al Barbour Field.
With the loss, Biola falls to 2-3-0 on the season while Cal State San Marcos improved to 4-5-1.
Cal State San Marcos entered the day with just three victories in nine matches and just one away from home while Biola had posted a 26-5-5 overall mark at home since the start of 2003. However, someone forgot to tell the Cougars who came out firing on all cylinders and controlled the match from start to finish.
CSUSM quickly tallied its first goal just 11 minutes in as Brittany Boyce tapped home the first tally off a great cross from Lica Martinez. The Cougars would add their second goal on another close finish off a nice cross, this time Taylor Ziencina finished a great ball from Lucia Asbury.
The Cougars would add two more goals in the second half, the first was a one-on-one chance from Courtney Drummond in the 59th minute. They would close out the match in the 75th minute with a quick finish by Ashley Fugelsang off a nice through ball by Sierra Young.
Biola managed just five shots in the match with three coming from freshman forward Gabby Jolin.
The match proved to be the Eagles worst home loss since the 1995 season when Azusa Pacific won 4-0 near the end of what turned out to be a winless season for Biola.
The Eagles look to recoup as they start GSAC play on Saturday (Sept. 22) at The Master's College in Santa Clarita. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
