BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Bryna Neill scored in the 61st minute and Biola University held off a ferocious late attack as the Eagles beat Trinity International University in a non-conference match Friday afternoon at Al Barbour Field.
Biola moves to 2-2-0 on the year and hands the Trojans their third straight loss, dropping them to 3-3-0.
The Eagles got off to a bad start in the match, looking flat from the opening kick and allowing a soft goal just 2:19 into the match. Trinity's Nicole Collins took advantage of some sloppy defense and blasted home the opening goal thanks to an assist from Jesse Edson.
The goal seemed to wake up Biola, which began to shut down on defense and created numerous opportunities. The pressure culminated in the Eagles' first goal as junior Brittany Neill and freshman Gabby Jolin created a scoring opportunity which resulted in an own goal, tying the match.
In the second half, Biola managed to take the lead thanks to Bryna Neill's lofted shot from about 15 yards out. Freshman Janna Mora, who was playing in her first match of the season, drew the assist.
Trinity International's freshman goalkeeper Rebekah Niedermayer did her best to keep the Trojans in the match, making nine saves and facing 12 shots. Biola's rookie netminder Lauren Gregston made four saves and earned her second collegiate win.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday (Sept. 20) as they host NAIA Region II foe Cal State San Marcos at Al Barbour Field at 7:00 p.m.
