Biola Defeats Oregon Tech 1-0 in Home Opener

Bryna Neill scored the match-winner for Biola in the 33rd minute

BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior forward Bryna Neill scored in the 33rd minute and the Biola defense clamped down to make the goal stand up as the Eagles downed Oregon Tech 1-0 in a non-conference match Saturday night at Al Barbour Field.

The Eagles improve to 1-1-0 on the season with the victory in their home opener while the Owls fall to 1-2-1.

Neill netted the eventual match-winner off a scramble in the net, banging home the rebound off a shot by her sister Brittany Neill. Brittany Neill's shot was a blast from up close that Oregon Tech's goalkeeper made a great save on. However, the rebound went right to the feet of Bryna Neill, who was able to put it away.

From that point, it was all Biola defense. The Eagles, who allowed just seven shots on the night, did not allow a shot on goal in the final 30 minutes of the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Gregston made four saves to earn her first collegiate victory and shutout. Gregston's best save came early on as she made an incredible sliding save to stop the Owls' Sarah Brown, who had slipped behind the defense in the 23rd minute.

Biola held a 20-7 shot advantage in the match and put 11 shots on frame, keeping Oregon Tech goalkeeper Megan Ross busy. Ross made 10 saves on the night including an incredible acrobatic save on a blast to the top corner by Biola's Tara Roetter.

Roetter finished the night with three shots, but made the Owl defense work with some impressive runs and strong crosses. Brittany Neill finished with four shots on the evening while sophomore Ashley Moseley tested the keeper with three shots.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 4), traveling to face NCAA Division II powerhouse Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
