AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola's improbable run through the NAIA Region II baseball playoffs came to an end on Wednesday night as top seed Azusa Pacific beat the fifth-seeded Eagles 5-0 at Cougar Field.

The Eagles, who were playing in their second consecutive elimination game, got a great start from sophomore Charlie Gausepohl, who managed to allow just one run through the first four innings.

However, after allowing runners to reach second and third with one out, he was replaced by Jimmy Johnson, who started the first game of the day. Johnson was able to get a strikeout for the second out, but Azusa Pacific's freshman star Bryce Cutspec blasted a three-run bomb to right field to blow the game open.

That was more than enough offense for APU starter Scott Hodsdon, who allowed just four runs over nine innings with nine strikeouts to pick up the win. Hodsdon tossed a seven-inning shutout over Biola the last times these teams battled, allowing just three hits in that game.

Cutspec capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with another bomb to right field as he wrapped up the day going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

The Eagles, who were making their fifth straight trip to the Region II tournament, ends the season with a record of 30-24 which included an impressive, school-record 14-game winning streak.
