LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Head Coach John Lane has announced the addition of four men's golfers to the first Biola men's golf team slated to begin play this fall. They are Grant Moffett (Poway/Poway HS), Michael Belleggie (Escondido/Escondido HS), Gabe Castillo (Norwalk/St. John Bosco HS) and CJ Clark (Los Gatos/Valley Christian HS).

Moffett is the lone incoming freshman in the first group of four. He comes to Biola by way of Poway High School where he had a career scoring average of 38 (nine holes). Moffett helped the Titans to a number of top finishes in some prestigious tournaments including the title at the Tuscon Invitational.  Moffett, who also played football and basketball, earned scholar athlete recognition at Poway.

"Grant is a very talented athlete," said Lane. "Although he had numerous offers to go elsewhere, we are honored that he chose Biola and is now a part of the golf program."

Belleggie, Castillo and Clark are current Biola students and were strong golfers in high school.

Belleggie was a three-year varsity golfer at Escondido High School where he earned First-Team All-Valley League honors twice with the Cougars. He shot a 72 in the league finals as a senior in 2005 and had a low round of 32 (nine holes) during the season. He helped EHS to a pair of league title during his high school days and also played basketball and football.

"Mike is a great golfer and has a solid swing," said Lane. "He had other opportunities to play college golf, but chose to go to Biola to strengthen his relationship with God. Now he is excited to be able to do both."

Castillo is just one year removed from high school where he was a varsity golfer for two seasons while at St. John Bosco High School. He posted a prep average of 39.78 (nine holes) and shot a low round of 36 en route to earning team MVP honors in 2006.

"Gabe has a great golf swing," said Lane. "We feel fortunate that Gabe is a current Biola student and that he is fully capable of playing at the collegiate level."

Clark played four years of varsity golf while at Valley Christian High School in the Bay Area. During his senior season, he earned individual qualification for the CIF Playoffs and posted an 40.7 (nine holes) scoring average. He was also named the most inspirational golfer by his teammates. Clark's father, Chris, was a varsity golfer on the University of Arizona team.

"CJ's family is heavily involved in golf and he is excited to be a part of the inaugural golf team here," said Lane.

Biola's first season in men's golf will begin in September, though an official schedule is still being finalized.
