LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola University women's basketball team continues to bulk up its roster as Head Coach Ken Crawford announced the addition of four new players for the 2007-08 season including three freshman and a junior transfer.

Charrise Reece (Santa Rosa/Montgomery HS), Jenna French (Whittier/La Serna HS), Jessi Conicelli (Redlands/Arrowhead Christian), and Chardonnay Nelson (La Mirada/La Mirada HS/Dominican University) have committed to playing for the Eagles and bring the total group of new players to six for the upcoming season.

Reece, a 5-4 point guard, becomes the second student-athlete to join the Biola women's basketball team from Santa Rosa's Montgomery High School where she played with future Eagle Christina Barclay. Reece, who was a four-time All-North Bay League selection, averaged 8.8 points per game and added 5.8 assists and 4.5 steals per contest to lead the Vikings to a 29-4 record.

“Charrise will add speed and quickness to our backcourt,” said Crawford. “She is a fun player to watch...her enthusiasm for the game is obvious and will be contagious. She has a great court presence and will be an impact player.”

French is coming off an amazing senior season at La Serna High School where she averaged 20.1 points, 13.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists on the season, helping the team win its third straight Del Rio League title and finish 26-4 overall. The 5-11 post player was named the Whittier Daily News girls basketball Player of the Year and also earned All-CIF first-team honors for her efforts. French, a four-time all-area selection, posted career highs in the Lancers' 99-74 win over Downey last year, scoring 46 points and adding 20 rebounds.

“Jenna is a great recruit for us,” said Crawford. “She is excited about being at Biola and we are enthusiastic about what she will offer us in terms of toughness on the boards and versatility as both an inside and outside player.”

Conicelli comes to Biola from Arrowhead Christian Academy where she averaged 20.1 points and 14.7 rebounds per game, helping the Eagles to an undefeated league season and their fourth-straight trip to the playoffs. The 6-0 post player earned CIF Player of the Year honors for Division IV-AA as well as Christian League MVP honors. As a junior, she also earned All-CIF first-team honors as well as being named one of 35 finalists for the Christian High School All-American team.

“Jessi has been one of the go to players for Arrowhead over the past three years,” said Crawford. “She has strong skills, is a proven winner and we expect very good things from her as she adjusts to the college game.”

Nelson, who returns to La Mirada after two seasons at Dominican University in San Rafael, rounds out the group. Nelson, a 5-8 guard, averaged 12 points and six rebounds as a sophomore, earning all-California Pacific Conference honors and helping the Penguins to a 20-12 record and a spot in the Cal Pac Championship game. As a freshman, she scored seven points and had four rebound a game en route to being named Cal Pac Freshman of the Year.

“We are excited about what Chardonnay will bring to us in terms of experience, confidence and abilities on the court,” said Crawford. “We expect that as a junior, she will make an immediate impact in our program.”

Biola wrapped up the 2006-07 season with a record of 10-19 and finished tied for eighth in the Golden State Athletic Conference at 6-14.
