Biola Athletes to Host Chapel on May 17

Biola spends millions of dollars a year on athletics. With tuition high and fundraising constantly a necessity, are athletics really worth it? What do athletics really bring to Biola's campus? School spirit? More prospective students? Good publicity?

Athletics obviously brings positives to the common university or college campus. But what about the negatives? Do athletes separate themselves from the rest of the student body? Do they attract students who care more about athletics and social interactoin than spiritual growth and Christian Community? Do they misrepresent Biola for what it longs to stand for with profanity, lack of self-control, and irresponsible living?

Whatever your stance on these questions is, one thing is certain...Biola Athletics does indeed represent Biola in some manner. Consequently, they represent Christ to thousands of opponents and spectators each year.

Are Biola Athletes taking these opportunities seriously? What measures are they taking to hold each other accountable and own their influence? How is Biola providing spiritually for their two hundred athletes who wear Biola's name while playing non-Christian athletes weekly? What are you doing to support athletes who represent your school and ultimately your Savior?

Biola athletes are hosting a chapel Thursday, May 17 at 9:30am in Calvary Chapel to answer some of these questions and dialogue with Biola students.
