CHICO, Calif. --- Another day, but the same results for Biola as the Eagles suffered a 7-0 loss at the hands of NCAA Division II Chico State, as the Wildcats completed a three-game series sweep on Saturday afternoon at Nettleton Stadium in Chico.

The Eagles, who have now dropped 11 of their last 14 games, fall to 21-16 on the season. Chico State, ranked No. 11 in the latest NCAA Division II poll, improve to 32-7.

The Wildcats again jumped out to a quick lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning off Biola starter Charlie Gausepohl (1-4). Gausepohl walked back-to-back batters with one out in the frame, then gave up a run-scoring double to Daniel Code. A dropped fly ball and wild pitch allowed the second and third runs of the inning to score before Casey Smyth drove in the fourth with a double to left.

Chico scored a run each in the second, third and fourth to wrap the scoring.

Chico's starter Garrett Rieck, making his first start of the year after off-season shoulder surgery, appeared in mid-season form, allowing just two hits over six innings to pick up the win. Elliott Tyson and Marcus Martinez closed out the game with Tyson tossing two innings and Martinez throwing the final frame.

Gausepohl lasted just 2/3 of an inning, allowing two hits, three earned runs and two walks before being replaced by freshman Steven Alexander. Alexander threw 5-1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Matt Smith picked up two of Biola's five hits to finish the day going 2-for-4 including a double. Jason Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and finishes the series going 5-for-9 with two doubles and four RBIs and may see more playing time as the season continues.

Biola continues its long road trip with a game on Monday (Apr. 9) at NCAA Division II San Francisco State University in a single game at 2:00 p.m.
