LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's defense committed eight errors and its pitchers surrendered 26 runs on the day as Concordia University swept a key GSAC doubleheader by scores of 18-4 and 8-4 on Saturday afternoon on Eagles Diamond.
Concordia improves to 25-11 on the season and 17-10 in the GSAC while Biola falls to 22-18 and 14-14 in the conference.
Daniel Robertson led Concordia by going 5-for-10 on the day with four runs scored while the GSAC's leading hitter, Matt Ross, blasted two home runs in game two.
Biola jumped out to a quick lead in game one, scoring two unearned runs in the first on a two-run double by Hawkins Gebbers.
However, the lead was short lived as Concordia took back the lead with three unearned runs in second thanks to a pair of Biola errors. Concordia then added four runs in the third to go up 7-2.
Keoni Ruth than made it 8-2 with a solo home run in the fourth inning and a three-run shot by Nathan Dean in the fifth put the game away.
Josh Baas (2-5) picked up the tough loss, allowing seven runs on six hits over 2-2/3 innings, though just two of the runs were earned.
Enrique Lechuga (9-1) allowed just four runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out five to earn the victory.
In game two, Ross gave Concordia a quick lead with a two-run homer in the first inning. In the second Biola got a run back as Nick Dietzen scored on a groundout by Danny Morrow.
But that lead was short-lived as Ross crushed his second home run of the game, this time a three-run blast, giving Concordia a 5-1 advantage. CU would add two more urns in the frame to take a commanding edge.
Matt Smith added an RBI-single in the bottom of the third and a David West groundout in the fourth made it 7-3, but Biola would get no closer.
Tom Glassman (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up seven runs in 2-2/3 innings. Mike Woolery (2-3) picked up the victory, allowing two earned runs in five innings.
Matt Smith was 3-for-7 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs on the day to pace the Biola offense. Chris Foreman was 3-for-5 to up his team-best batting average to .427 on the year.
Biola returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 18), hosting Westmont College at 3:00 p.m. at Eagles Diamond.
