RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola University snapped a five-match losing-streak with an 8-1 non-conference win over La Sierra University on Thursday afternoon in Riverside.

The Eagles improve to 3-7 on the season with the much-needed victory while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-7 on the season.

Biola picked up three quick wins in the doubles to open the match. Ellen Monkemeier and Christine Garner combined for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles with Megan Shore and Marisa Flores winning by the same score at No. 2 doubles. The Eagles picked up a default win at No. 3s.

In the singles, Flores picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles to lead the way for Biola. Molly McMullen won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles with Marvy Beckman taking a 6-0, 6-4 decision at No. 5.

The closest matches of the day came in the top two singles matches. Christy Humphrey narrowly edged Paulina Valencia 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.

The Eagles lone loss of the day came at No. 1 where Monkemeier and Alycia Payne combined for the best match of the day. After Monkemeier took the first set by a 7-5 count, Payne came back to pull out the second 7-6. In the tiebreaker, Payne survived to win 11-9.

Biola returns to the courts on Friday (Mar. 9) as it hosts the University of La Verne at 2:00 p.m. at the Biola Tennis Complex.
