GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University pitchers Katie Gustaveson and Emily Gray each tossed five-inning no-hitters as the Eagles swept a non-conference doubleheader with Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon at Freedom Field in La Mirada.
Biola (10-2) won the first game 13-0 and took the second by a score of 8-0. Both games were called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
The Eagles got a great combination of offense and pitching over the course of the two games as they pounded out 28 hits and scored 21 runs in just eight innings.
Senior Amerra Kesterson provided much of the offense, going 6-for-7 with a double, five runs scored and three RBIs. Not to be outdone, fellow senior Lindsay Nuckolls was 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs.
However, the day belonged to the two Biola pitchers. Gustaveson struckout four and walked just one batter to run her record to 5-3. Gray then took to the circle and matched the output by striking out six and walking just one herself.
In the first game, Biola struck early and often with Sarah Jensen driving home Kesterson with an RBI-double to open the scoring, then scored herself on an infield putout.
The Eagles would add four in the second inning with Nuckolls driving in two with her second double of the game.
In the third inning, Biola put the game out of reach with a six spot as Jensen drove home a pair of runs with a single up the middle. Kesterson capped the scoring in the fourth with an RBI-double.
In the second game, Nuckolls and Krista Johnson had RBI-triples to cap a three-run first inning. Biola would add another in the third inning on an RBI-single by Kacie Lyding.
The big blow of the day came in the bottom of the fourth, though as Keena Levert, who had been struggling so far this season, blasted a grand slam home run to left center-field to account for the rest of the scoring.
Biola returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 10) as the team travels to Riverside for a big GSAC doubleheader against Cal Baptist. The games are set to start at Noon.
