LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Christina Barclay, a 6-foot-4 post player from Santa Rosa's Montgomery High School and Megan Jackson, a 6-foot-1 forward from Buena High School in Ventura, have committed to playing basketball at Biola next season. Making that announcement was Biola Women's Basketball Head Coach Ken Crawford.

The signings are the first two for Coach Crawford heading into the 2007-08 season and are sure to add even more inside presence to complement All-GSAC forward Megann Alberts.

Barclay averaged 12 points and 11.5 rebounds during her senior season with the Vikings, helping Montgomery to a 29-4 record and a spot in the CIF NorCal semifinals. She was named to the All-North Bay League team by The Santa Rosa Press Democrat this season for the first time in her prep career after leading the league in rebounding and blocked shots.

Barclay had her best game of the season as the Vikings beat No. 1 Maria Carillo 65-36 in a mid-season battle for supremacy in the North Bay League. Barclay scored 24 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and was 9-of-12 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

“We are very excited to have a player of Christina's ability and ongoing potential,” said Crawford. “She has made a commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the court and has already shown us her ability to follow through on both.

“After an excellent senior year at Montgomery, we expect that she will be a force for Biola in the coming years,” said Crawford.

Jackson scored 7.3 points and had 5.5 rebounds a game for the Bulldogs, helping them to a 23-6 record and a spot in the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA quarterfinals. Jackson, who played under the direction of famed coach Joe Vaughan, helped Buena share a piece of the Channel League title the last two seasons.

“Megan is a player that will continue to get stronger every year that she plays,” said Crawford. “She is a young player, but it is obvious that she possesses the athletic ability and work ethic that will make her a strong contributor to our program.”

In addition to her play on the court, Jackson has excelled in the classroom as well. She recently was awarded the Harold McFadden Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence, as well as being a National Merit Scholarship award winner and an AP Scholar with honors.

To cap it off, she also earned the Bank of America Plaque in Liberal Arts which distinguished her as the top student in her class in English, foreign language, history and the social sciences.

Biola wrapped up the 2006-07 season with a record of 10-19 and finished tied for eighth in the Golden State Athletic Conference at 6-14.
