San Diego Christian Ends Biola's Season, 64-53

Danny Jones scored 26 points for Biola

BOX SCORE

El Cajon, Calif. --- Biola's season came to an end as San Diego Christian beat the Eagles 64-53 in the first round of the GSAC playoffs on Thursday night at the Ryan Athletic Center in El Cajon.

Biola, which entered the game as the No. 7-seed in the GSAC tournament, ends its season at 15-16 overall. San Diego Christian, the No. 2 seed, improves to 24-4 and will face the No. 4 seed Azusa Pacific in the semi-finals on Saturday evening.

Junior Danny Jones led the way for Biola with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Salo added nine points on three three-pointers in the second half. However, Jones was the bulk of the offense, recording 13 of the team's 23 made field goals in the game.

Drew Sanchez scored 17 points to lead San Diego Christian while Rory Morgan added 15. GSAC Player of the Year Rowan Gray was held to just six points, but had 12 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.

The Eagles opened the game with a quick 5-3 lead, but the Hawks went on an 11-0 run to break the game open early. Biola pulled back within four on three occasions but could get no closer and went to the half down by nine at 32-23.

However, in the second half, San Diego Christian opened with an 11-4 run to stretch the lead out to 16 points and never looked back. A late run by Biola got the score down to eight but it was too little, too late.

Biola's undoing came from its 37.7-percent shooting from the field, one of its lowest outputs of the season. San Diego Christian shot an even 50-percent in the game including 58-percent in the first half.

The Eagles wrap up the season with a losing record for just the first time in 10 seasons. The last time a Biola men's team finished below .500 was in 1994-95 when the Eagles finished 10-21.
