Eagles Fall to The Master's, 75-72

Megann Alberts scored 23 to lead Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University jumped out to a quick lead over The Master's College but was unable to hold on, falling 75-72 on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.

The Mustangs, who entered the night ranked No. 21 in the latest NAIA rankings, improve to 13-7 on the season and are now 8-6 in GSAC play. The Eagles fall to 9-14 and 5-9 with their third straight loss.

Biola's Megann Alberts led all scorers, pouring in 23 points and adding nine rebounds. Summer Matthews added 14 points with Chelsea De Luca and Rachel Dulin adding 12 points each.

The Master's Kinsley Mittel scored 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. She added three steals and three assists to her tally.

The Eagles came out of the chute red hot and jumping out to a 20-10 lead just eight minutes in. However, the Mustangs shook off their slow start and took their first lead at 34-32 just before the half.

In the second period, The Master's used a 10-3 run to take its biggest lead of the night at 66-54 with 4:44 remaining. Biola, however, had a little gas left and narrowed the gap to three at 70-67 with 23 seconds left.

With 11 seconds remaining Dulin drained a long three-pointer to pull the Eagles to within two at 74-72. Brianne Yahn then made just one of two free throw attempts leaving the door open for Biola. However, Dulin's last second three-point attempt just missed.

Biola shot well from the floor, hitting 45.5-percent from the field. Howveer, The Master's was just asa hot, making 53-percent of its shots including a sparkling 70-percent (14-of-20) in the second half.

The Eagles retrurn to action on Saturday (Feb. 10) as they travel to Cal Baptist for a GSAC game at 5:30 p.m.
