SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --- Cal State San Bernardino pounded out 11 runs on 14 hits to snap Biola's three-game winning streak with an 11-2 non-conference win Tuesday afternoon at Arrowhead Credit Union Park in San Bernardino.
The Eagles (3-1 overall) managed nine hits of their own and led 2-0 going into bottom of the fourth inning before the wheels came off. The Coyotes (2-1 overall) fought back with two in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, one in the sixth, four in the seventh and two more in the eighth inning.
Matt Love got Biola on the board with a two-run, two-out double in the bottom of the second inning against San Bernardino starter Ward Minich. But that would be all of the offense the Eagles could muster as six pitchers worked the final seven innings, scattering five hits and striking out nine.
Josh Baas took the loss, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits through six innings. He also struck out three and walked five.
Centerfielder Adam Yoder, first baseman Nick Dietzen and rightfielder Matt Smith each had two hits for Biola.
The Coyotes' leadoff hitter, centerfielder Justin Roberson, was 4-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and two RBIs. Firstbaseman Anthony Ross also had a good game at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two knocked in.
Biola opens conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader at rival Azusa Pacific University on Saturday (Feb. 10) beginning at 11:00 a.m.
