Schiller and Monkemeir Lead Biola in Day Two of CSULA Tournament

LOS ANGELES --- April Schiller advanced to the semifinals of the five and six singles bracket while Ellen Monkemier moved into the consolation finals to highlight second day action for Biola at the Cal State LA Invitational Saturday in Los Angeles.

The Eagles had four singles and a doubles combo still alive in the tournament which featured a number of strong NCAA Division I and Division II teams.

Schiller, who was the lone Biola player to advance out of the first round , 6-0thanks to a default victory, defeeated Sophie Garcia of The Master's College 6-2, 6-2. She was then defeated by Cal State LA's Bojana Ducanovic 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.

Monkemier picked up two wins and advances to the final match of the consolation bracket which will be held on Sunday morning. Monkemier defeated teammate Marisa Flores 8-3, then downed Loyola Marymount's Audra Silman 8-6. She will face Grand Canyon University's Kimberly Leward in the final match.

Silman ended Christine Garner's run through the consolation finals with an 8-2 win prior to losing to Monkemier.

The remaining doubles tandem of Garner and Monkemier lost their consolation-round match against Kraft and Leake of The Master's College by an 8-4 score.

Biola's lone remaining athlete--Ellen Monkemeier--plays her final match of the tournament at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
