ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Hawkins Gebbers crushed a three-run home run in the top of the first inning as Biola finished off a three-game sweep over NCAA Division II Dixie State College with a 7-3 win on Saturday afternoon in St. George, Utah.
The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season while the Rebels fall to 0-3.
Biola junior righthander Jordan Litle picked up the victory, throwing seven innings of shutout ball, scattering just four hits and striking out five.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning as Gebbers blasted a two-out, three-run home run to left field. Biola would add two more in the third, taking advantage of three Dixie State errors to take a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Eagles would add two more insurance runs as Nick Dietzen scored on a wild pitch followed by a Kris Cook sacrifice fly to plate Gebbers.
After a strong outing Friday afternoon, Derek Dietzen struggled in the ninth, surrendering three runs on four hits before settling down and getting the final two outs fo the game.
Gebbers finished the night 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Adam Yoder also had a multi-hit day, going 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Kyle Pratt and Mark Rose were 3-for-4 each to pace Dixie State.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday with another contest against an NCAA Division II school facing Cal State San Bernardino at Arrowhead Credit Union Park in San Bernardino on Tuesday (Feb. 6). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
