LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Adam Yoder hit a walk-off RBI-single to score Danny Morrow as Biola came from three runs down and scored a 4-3 non-conference win over Patten University at Eagles Diamond in La Mirada on Thursday.
Trailing by two runs going into the bottom of the eighth, Biola rallied for one in the eighth and two in the ninth and moved back to .500 at 5-5 on the season. The Lions fall to 4-9 with the loss.
The Eagles got the ball rolling early as Yoder opened the game with a double down the rightfield line, then scored on a single by Kris Cook.
Biola starter Derek Dietzen made that run stand up for a while, striking out five and allowing just one hit over the four innings he threw on the afternoon.
The Lions came back into the game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning as Jeremy Wells plated two runs with a double, then scored on a Biola error.
The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the eighth as Chris Foreman led the inning off with a double to right centerfield. Two outs later, Matt Love drove him in with an RBI-single to rightfield.
The Lions threatened in the top of the ninth off Biola closer Greg Matson. But after loading the bases with just one out, Matson was able to coax a pair of infield pop outs out of the Lions to end the threat.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Hawkins Gebbers opened the inning by reaching on shortstop Brett Korporaal's third error of the game. Morrow followed with a single through the leftside to put runners at first and second.
One out later, pinch-hitter Tim Wells drove in the tying run with a single through the leftside to score Gebbers. With two outs, Yoder then ended the game with an RBI-single through the rightside of the infield.
Patten starter Daniel Silvas pitched a strong game, allowing just two runs on four hits over 7-1/3 innings. After allowing two hits to open the game, Silvas retired 11 straight Eagles and surrendered just one more hit until tiring in the eighth inning.
Seven pitchers took the mound for Biola with Matson picking up the victory to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Yoder finished the day going 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI and Chris Foreman went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
DuJuan Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Lion offense. Despite his three errors, Korporaal had a decent day at the plare, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Biola returns to GSAC action on Saturday (Feb. 24), traveling to face No. 11-ranked Concordia in a doubleheader slated to start at 11:00 a.m.
