LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola picked up its first victory of the young 2007 season with an 8-1 win over La Sierra University on Tuesday.

The Eagles improve to 1-2 on the season with the win.

Biola took all six of the singles matches in straight sets. The best of the bunch proved to be the match at No. 1 singles where Ellen Monkemeier fell behind 5-4 early in the first set. However, she rebounded in grand fashion, taking the set 7-5, then cruised to a 6-1 win in the second to win the match.

From that point, the Eagles lost just seven games in the remaining singles matches en route to the win.

Biola returns to action on Friday as the team travels to Pasedena to face Cal Tech at 3:00 p.m.
