LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior Danny Jones stole the spotlight on Senior Night, scoring 25 points to lead Biola to a 62-53 win over Fresno Pacific University Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.
The Eagles, who broke a six-game home losing streak with the win, improve to 14-14 overall and are 8-10 in GSAC play. The Sunbirds drop to 12-15 and 6-13 in conference. They have now lost three straight and 12 of their last 14 games.
Biola had little trouble with Fresno until late in the game as the Sunbirds cut a 27-point deficit down to 11 with about three minutes to go. However, the Eagles were strong down the stretch, twice scoring as the shot clock expired and holding off Fresno Pacific in the end.
The Eagles jumped all over the Sunbirds in the first half, opening the game with a 14-3 run and leading by as many as 15. They quickly grew the lead to 27 at 44-19 with 16:02 to go in the game.
Jordan Farley led the way for Fresno Pacific, scoring 18 points in 33 minutes off the bench. Andrew David added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Three seniors were playing in their final home games for the Eagles and made the most of the night. Solomon Mercado scored nine points with three assists and four rebounds while Kevin Cook had just one point but dished out five assists and added two steals for Biola. Matt Emadi had a tough shooting night but still had six points, five rebounds, an assists and a steal in 25 minutes.
Freshman Rocky Hampton made a return to the court just weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn miniscus. Hampton scored six points, pulled down four rebounds and blocked two shots in 20 minutes.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Feb. 24) as they travel to The Pit to face Vanguard University. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
