Matt Love went 4-for-5 to lead Biola

BOX SCORE

ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Biola University's offense was on display again as the Eagles pounded out 14 runs on 17 hits--including three more home runs--en route to a 14-7 win over Dixie State College on Friday afternoon.

Senior Jon Young picked up the victory for Biola (2-0 overall) after going five innings and surrending three earned. But the story of the day was the Eagles offense.

A trio of Biola juniors went deep, led by Matt Smith, who cranked his third homer of the year. Danny Morrow added his second in as many games while Adam Yoder got in on the hit parade by going yard for the first time. In just two games this year, Biola has already hit six homers.

Second baseman Matt Love had a great day, going 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.

Biola got off to a bit of a rough start as Young surrendered a two-out, two-run homer to the Rebels' Mark Rose in the bottom of the first. Morrow evened the score in the top of the second with a two-run shot of his own, and the Eagles took the lead one inning later on an RBI single by leftfielder Scott Nelson.

After Dixie State recaptured the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third, Biola tied up the scored on an RBI single by Love.

The back-and-forth affair ended there, however as Biola exploded for three in the fifth thanks to a three-run shot by Smith. The Eagles then tacked on four more runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.

The Biola bullpen shined again, allowing just two runs on two hits over the final four innings. Sophomore Derek Dietzen closed out the game by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.

Second baseman Jordan Daley led the Rebel offense with a 3-for-5 performance with leftfielder Blake Mickelson going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.

The Eagles close out the three-game series against the Rebels at Noon on Saturday (Feb. 3).
