LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University's playoff chances took a big hit as poor-shooting led to a 56-44 loss to Concordia University on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.

Biola, which entered the contest clinging to one of the last GSAC playoff spots, dropped to 10-16 on the season and to 6-11 in GSAC play. Concordia improved to 11-14 and 6-11 in conference action.

Biola's struggles mostly came offensively as the Eagles shot just 25 percent from the field (16-of-64), though they were able to hang in thanks to a 54-30 rebounding edge.

Sophomore Megann Alberts had a game-high 17, but was just 5-of-18 from the field. She added 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Summer Matthews had a monster game, scoring 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and pulling down 22 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.

The game was close through most of the first half as Concordia took a 23-20 edge into the locker room. However, after Biola took a 28-27 lead five minutes into the second half, CUI began to pull away.

Concordia used a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 40-30 lead which it never relinquished.

Priscilla Angeloni led the way for Concordia with 11 points and four steals. All nine CUI players scored at least two points in the game.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 20) for its final home game of the year at 5:30 p.m.
