GAME ONE BOX | GAME TWO BOX
ASHLAND, Ore. --- Freshman Krista Johnson went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles and sophomore pitcher Emily Gray tossed a two-hit shutout in game two as Biola University swept Southern Oregon University by scores of 6-3 and 2-0 Thursday afternoon at University Field in Ashland, Oregon.
The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season while Southern Oregon drops its first two games of 2007.
Biola struck early in the opening game, scoring five runs in the first inning by taking advantage of some wild pitching by Raiders' starter Alicia Caudill. Johnson picked up her first hit and RBI on the day with an RBI single to plate senior Amerra Kesterson.
Shortstop Keena Levert and Morgan Facchini each picked up RBIs to help Biola jump out to a 5-0 lead. The Eagles would add one in the top of the fourth on a sac fly by Lavert.
The Raiders got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth, as Melissa Wilt drove in two with an RBI single followed by an RBI single by Karla Alvarez.
However, that would be it for Southern Oregon as Tatiana Garcia relieved starter Katie Gustaveson and shutdown the Raiders over the final two innings for her first save of the year. Gustaveson went five innings, surrendering three runs but striking out six to earn her second win of the season.
In game two, sophomore pitcher Emily Gray pitched seven shutout innings, scattering two hits and striking out six to go to 2-0 on the year. Gray allowed just a single in the second and another in the seventh, retiring 15 straight Raiders at one point in the game.
Biola once again got on the scoreboard in the first inning, as catcher Holly Jackson drove in Johnson with a two-out RBI single.
The Eagles would add another run in the top of the fifth as Johnson drove in left fielder Brittany Bury with an RBI double.
Biola returns to action on Firday (Feb. 16), opening the Easton/Southern Oregon University Inviational with a doubleheader against Northwest Christian College beginning at Noon.
