Biola Falls at Westmont, 64-46

Coach Ken Crawford and Megann Alberts

BOX SCORE

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- A slow-shooting night combined with a career-game from a freshman guard proved to be too much for Biola University as the Eagles fell to Westmont College, 64-46, in a Golden State Athletic Conference contest at Murchison Gymnasium in Santa Barbara.

Biola falls to 10-15 overall and 6-10 in GSAC play, while the Warriors improved to 14-9 and 9-7 in conference action.

The Eagles game plan of stopping sophomore standout Ali Mooty seemed to work through the first half, but Mooty finished with 13 points--11 in the second half--and 11 rebounds. However, the attention paid to Mooty gave freshman guard Amber Stevens a chance to shine. Stevens finished the game with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.

Biola's Megann Alberts matched her season average with 19 points but had just six rebounds. Senior guard Rochelle Rausch had 10 points and three assists.

The Eagles got off to a slow start, trailing 25-12 nearly 13 minutes into the game. They were able to close the gap to six at 27-21, but went to the locker room down 32-21.

In the second, Biola was never able to cut the lead back down below double-digits as Mooty and Stevens caught fire to help the Warriors cruise.

Biola committed just 14 turnovers in the game to eight by Westmont, but the Warriors were better at taking advantage of the miscues, converting the Eagles turnovers into 22 points.

The Eagles return home to begin their final home stand of the season, hosting Concordia University on Saturday (Feb 17) at 5:30 p.m.
