SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- Elise Paty scored a game-high 18 points thanks to six three-pointers, but it was not enough as Biola University fell to the University of British Columbia 76-50 in the opening game of the GSAC Challenge Classic on Friday afternoon at Bross Gym at The Master's College.

The Eagles fall to 4-7 on the season while the Thunderbirds continue to roll with an 18-1 overall mark.

Biola fell behind 7-0 early in the game, but managed to keep the score within nine through most of the first half, closing the gap to six at 25-19 with 3:17 to go.

However the Thunderbirds used a 13-2 run which spanned halftime to open a 38-21 lead. British Columbia put the game away midway through the half with a 13-0 and never looked back.

The Eagles struggled from the field, shooting just 30 percent in the game including 22 percent in the first half. The Thunderbirds hit 44 percent of their shots and drained 8-of-16 three-point attempts.

Paty was Biola's best shooter, hitting 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and adding three rebounds and three assists. Megann Alberts added 12 points for the Eagles.

For British Columbia, Cait Haggarty and Erica McGuinness each scored 17 points while Alex Viewig added 12 points.

Biola closes out the tournament on Saturday (Dec. 29) against Missouri Valley College at 4:00 p.m.
