Toros Bullish on Defense; Defeat Biola 59-40

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Cal State Dominguez Hills played solid defense and stifled Biola's high-scoring offense, defeating the Eagles 59-40 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Chase Gymnasium.

Biola fell to 4-6 on the season with the loss. The Toros, who are members of the NCAA Division II, improve to 6-2 overall.

Cal State Dominguez Hills held the Eagles to just 33 percent shooting and allowed just 40 points. It was Biola's lowest point total since scoring 39 during the 2004-05 season and nearly 28 points below its season average. The Toros also forced 33 turnovers, converting them into 34 points.

The Eagles fell behind early as CSUDH jumped out to a 13-5 lead six minutes into the game. Biola would close the gap to two at 17-15 on a three-pointer by Jenna French with six minutes to go. However, the Toros would then go on an 11-0 run and headed to the half holding a seven-point lead.

Biola kept the score close through the beginning of the second half and trailed 39-33 just five minutes into the second half. But the Toros would then use a 16-3 run over the next seven minutes to break the game open.

Chelsea De Luca led the Eagles with eight points while Richae Kater added seven points off the bench.

For the Toros, Brigayle scored a game-high 20 points including 14 in the second half. Jessica Liang added 10 points.

The Eagles are off until after Christmas, returning to action on Friday, December 27, at the GSAC Challenge Classic. Biola opens the tournament against the University of British Columbia.
