Biola Cruises Past Cal State Maritime, 71-44

Rocky Hampton recorded 16 points and added six blocks

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After a little bit of a slow start, the Biola offense rolled in the second half as the Eagles dispatched of Cal State Maritime 71-44 in a non-conference game on Saturday night in Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.

Biola improves to 4-3 on the season while snapping a two-game losing streak. The Keelhaulers fall to 3-5 on the season with their second-straight defeat.

Sophomore forward Rocky Hampton paced the Eagles with 16 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. Freshman guard Luke Duperron added 14 points with sophomore guard Marlon King scored 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.

Biola got off to a slow start, going back and forth with the Keelhaulers through the first half. After an Andy Johnson made jumper with 8:43 remaining in the half gave Cal State Maritime its biggest lead of the game at 21-18, the Eagles went to work. Biola would put together a 25-9 that spanned halftime and opened up a 42-30 lead five minutes into the second half.

The Eagles would eventually outscore Cal State Maritime 40-18 in the second half, hitting 56 percent from the field while the Keelhaulers managed just 29 percent.

Biola wraps up a busy two week schedule with a non-conference game on Tuesday (Dec. 4) against Whittier College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
