BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sophomore guard Chelsea De Luca scored a career-high 20 points including hitting six three-pointers, but it was not enough for Biola to pull off the stunning upset as the Eagles fell 76-69 to No. 9 Point Loma Nazarene on Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play while the Sea Lions improve to 4-1 and 1-1 in the GSAC.
Biola's Megann Alberts also had a strong night, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while forward Summer Matthews added 10 points and nine boards.
Despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half, Biola put up a valiant effort in the second and eventually tied the game at 60-60 with just over five minutes to go. But the Sea Lions put together a 10-0 run to take back the lead at 70-60 and, despite pulling back within six on a number of occasions, were not able to pull off the upset.
Katie Hilbelink had a game-high 21 points to lead Point Loma Nazarene while Katie Sutton-Wodarski added 18 points.
The Eagles held a 36-34 edge in rebounds, but committed 20 turnovers to PLNU's 10, leading to 23 points for the Sea Lions.
Biola returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 1) with a non-conference home game against NCAA Division III Pomona-Pitzer at 5:30 p.m.
