Big Second Half Propels Biola to 79-55 Win Over Redlands

Marlon King scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds for the Eagles

REDLANDS, Calif. --- After a close first half, Biola outscored the University of Redlands by 17 points in the second for a 79-55 win in a non-conference game on Saturday evening in Redlands.

The Eagles move to 3-1 on the season with their second straight victory while the Bulldogs fall to 2-1.

Biola was led by sophomore guard Marlon King, who had 15 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals–all team-highs. Senior forward Danny Jones added 14 points and nine boards while freshman guard Luke Dupperon scored 13 points.

Biola opened the game strong, scoring the game's first 13 points and leading 17-3 just over seven minutes into the contest. But Redlands found its stroke and slowly closed the gap with a 21-6 run over a six minute span to take its only lead of the night at 26-25. Biola then closed the half with on 12-4 run to take a 37-30 lead into the locker room.

After the teams exchanged three-pointers to open the second half, the Eagles took over the game, going on a 15-2 run to open up a 20-point lead an dnever looking back. Redlands would get no closer than 14 the rest of the way as Biola went on to win by 24.

The Eagles shot 50.8 percent from the field in the game while holding Redlands to 36.8 percent. The Bulldogs shot well in the first, but Biola held them to just 28 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.

The great second half effort by the Eagles has been common place in their first four games as Biola is outscoring its opponents 161-106 on the season and holding them to just 30 percent shooting from the field.

Freshman forward Andrew Schroeder scored 11 points off the bench for the Eagles.

Dave Thomas led Redlands with 13 points while Justin Sobczyk added 11 points.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 27), traveling to Hope International for a GSAC contest at 7:30 p.m.
