OAKLAND, Calif. --- Junior Megann Alberts scored 18 points to lead three players in double-digits, but it was not enough as Biola University dropped its season-opener 79-75 to Westminster College (Utah) in the first game of the Holy Names Classic on Friday.
The Eagles open the year at 0-1 while the Griffins move to 1-0 with the victory.
Alberts scored 18 points and had nine rebounds to lead Biola. Elise Paty added 14 points with Summer Matthews scored 13.
Shannon Evans and Alexis Tucker each scored 23 points to lead Westminster.
The Eagles shot well from the field, shooting 46 percent from the field including hitting 53 percent in the second half. However, the Griffins shot an impressive 55 percent in the game to outlast Biola in a slugfest.
Biola will face Holy Names in the consolation game of the Classic on Saturday (Nov. 3) at 6:00 p.m.
