FULLERTON, Calif. --- Sophomore Derek Friehe and senior Colin Kilpatrick scored goals as Biola snapped a three-match losing-streak with a 2-0 win over Hope International in a GSAC match on Tuesday at Cal State Fullerton.
The Eagles improve to 6-8-0 on the season and get a much-needed three points in the GSAC standings. Biola is now 2-4-0 in conference play. The Royals dropped to 8-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the GSAC.
The match was a physical encounter between a pair of teams struggling to get a conference victory. However, when the dust settled, the Eagles came away with a well-deserved win.
Friehe opened the scoring for Biola, tapping home a through ball in the box from freshman Jake Ravenscraft. It was the third goal of the season for the elder Friehe and the second assist by Ravenscraft.
In the second half, the Eagles struck again as Kilpatrick scored a huge insurance goal in the 52nd minute off a free kick. The play started when a Hope player was called for a foul just outside of the box. Kilpatrick quickly set the ball and fired a shot as the Royal defenders were attempting to set up their defense.
Freshman netminder Tyler Higgins recorded four saves and faced 11 shots on the night to earn his sixth collegiate victory and third shutout of the year.
The victory keeps Biola's perfect record against Hope intact as the Eagles improve to 15-0-0 all-time. Biola has allowed just five goals to the Royals in those 15 contests.
The Eagles return home for what could be the biggest match of the season, hosting arch-rival and No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific University on Saturday (Oct. 13) at 7:00 p.m.
