BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- A defensive error led to an early goal for No. 10 Fresno Pacific and the Sunbird's defense turned it into the match-winner as FPU defeated Biola 1-0 in a GSAC match on Wednesday night at Al Barbour Field.
The Eagles fall to 5-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in GSAC play while Fresno, ranked No. 10 in the latest NAIA National Ratings, improve to 8-2-1 and 1-2-1 in conference action.
The early tally came off the foot of the Sunbirds' Pablo Campos, who gathered a loose ball in the box after the Biola defenders collided. He took a quick touch and snuck it past Biola netminder Tyler Higgins.
It was the only mistake on the night for Higgins who was incredible in net, making seven saves including a pair one one-on-one scoring chances to keep the Eagles in the match.
The Eagles had few quality scoring chances against the stingy Fresno Pacific defense. The first came in the 20th minute as senior Colin Kilpatrick sent a free kick into the box where sophomore Derek Friehe had a clear shot, but sent it just over the bar.
In the second half, the Eagles had another great chance when senior Ryan Parker sent a cross into the box where Friehe got a head on the ball, but again the shot just sailed over the bar.
Fresno outshot the Eagles 13-7 in the match and put seven on goal while Biola failed to get a shot on net.
The Sunbirds' Brandon Cave earned his fifth shutout of the year.
Biola returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 6), traveling to Irvine to face No. 1 Concordia University in its fourth straight match against a nationally-ranked team. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
