LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was another defensive battle between a pair of GSAC foes as Biola University and Fresno Pacific University battled to a 0-0 tie on Tuesday afternoon at Al Barbour Field.
The Eagles move to 2-5-2 on the season and are now 0-2-2 in GSAC play. The Sunbirds are now 5-2-3 overall and 0-1-3 in conference.
The two teams battled at midfield throughout regulation without creating many scoring chances. However, things did get quite exciting in the overtime periods.
Biola opened the first overtime by creating a one-on-one scoring chance as senior Laurelle Robertson flew past the Fresno defenders only to have her shot saved by goalkeeper Justine Caldera.
In the 99th minute, the Eagles nearly got on the board as freshman Tara Roetter crossed a ball to junior Brittany Neill who cracked a great shot which was also saved by Caldera.
Fresno had a few chances of its own in the extra time. Ashley Soderholm took a quick shot in traffic in the 92nd minute only to see Biola goalkeeper Lauren Gregston make a diving save.
Gregston, who earned GSAC Defensive Player of the Week honors last week, made two saves on the afternoon to earn her third shutout of the year and second in three matches. Caldera also earned another shutout, making three saves.
The Eagles outshot the Sunbirds 11-8 and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Biola continues to play well at home posting a 2-1-2 overall mark at Al Barbour Field this season, and is now 26-6-7 at home since the start of the 2003 season.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Oct. 6) for another GSAC match, traveling to face No. 18 Concordia University in a match scheduled to kick off at Noon.
