BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- A pair of first-half goals and a strong defense propelled Cal State Bakersfield to a 2-0 non-conference win over Biola on Friday night at the Main Soccer Field in Bakersfield.
The Roadrunners, who are an NCAA Division I school, improves to 4-10-1 on the season while the Eagles fall to 3-10-2.
Natalie Haigh got Cal State Bakersfield on the board in the 32nd minute, heading home the first goal off a great cross from Jackie Torvestad.
Just before the half, the Roadrunners got their second goal as Torvestad scored on a header from Samantha David.
While Bakersfield dominated play on the offensive end, the Eagles did manage a pair of strong scoring chances.
In the 40th minute, freshman Amy Atkinson cracked a shot from the top of the box which just sailed over the top of the crossbar. Atkinson was wide open at the top after sophomore Kahlie Reinecke worked to get free and found her with a nice cross.
In the 58th minute, Biola had another great opportunity off a corner kick. As the ball found a crowd in the center of the box, but a pair of shots by freshman Natalie Wolf were blocked and the ball was cleared wide.
The Eagles play their final road contest on Wednesday (Oct. 24), traveling to Riverside to face off against California Baptist at 3:00 p.m.
