BOX SCORE
FRESNO, Calif. --- Freshman Rocky Hampton scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds to help Biola score a big 73-67 road victory over Fresno Pacific University Tuesday night in Fresno.
The Eagles, who snapped a two-game losing-steak with the victory, improve to 10-8 on the season and 4-4 in conference action. For the Sunbirds (10-7, 4-5 GSAC), it was their fourth straight loss and sixth in their last eight games after an 8-1 start.
Junior forward Danny Jones had a strong performance with 17 points while senior guard Matt Emadi added 13 points--nine from the free throw line.
Fresno Pacific started out the contest on a hot note, holding a 17-10 lead midway through the first half. But the Eagles fought their way back into the game, tying the score at 25 with 4:55 remaining on a fastbreak layup by Solomon Mercado.
Biola opened the second half on a 13-0 run to take a 46-31 lead five minutes in. Fresno Pacific made things interesting near the end of the game, pulling to within two points with 19 seconds left as Jordan Beshore drained a long three. But Emadi and Hampton each hit a pair of free throws in the waining seconds to seal the deal.
Biola has now won 21 of its past 22 games against Fresno Pacific and is 21-4 overall in GSAC contests against the Sunbirds.
The Eagles return home to take on Vanugard University on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 7:30 p.m.
