Eagles Play to 1-1 Tie With Concordia

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The No. 21-ranked Biola women's soccer team struggled at times against an upset-minded Concordia squad, but in the end, the Eagles received a big break and managed to hold on for a 1-1 draw with the other Eagles Saturday night in La Mirada.

Biola (5-3-2 overall, 0-1-1 GSAC) managed to force Concordia into giving up an own goal with strong pressure up front in the 81st minute to force overtime and eventually salvage the tie.

Concordia, which had pulled a stunning upset over No. 8 Westmont earlier in the week, nearly pulled off another stunner against Biola.

Caitlin Schneider played a brilliant pass up ahead to a streaking Trina McGee, who lofted a ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper to give Concordia a lead in the 56th minute.

After the two teams battled a midfield for about 20 minutes, the home side finally was able to sustain pressure leading to a number of scoring chances that missed.

With just under 10 minutes to go, the bounces started going Biola's way as a shot by senior Jordan Bishop ricocheted off a pair of Concordia defenders and settled into the back of the goal.

Neither team had any strong scoring chances in the overtime and were forced to settle with the 1-1 draw.

Biola goalkeeper Keri Schulz made five saves to help keep the Eagles in the match while Concordia netminder Vanessa Vela made six saves of her own.

Biola travels to San Diego for a match against San Diego Christian College on Wednesday (Oct. 4) at 3:00 p.m.
