No. 22 Biola Falls to No. 2 Azusa Pacific, 5-0

AZUSA, Calif. --- No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific found the back of the net twice in the first minute of the second half to break open a close game en route to a 5-0 win over No. 22 Biola at Azusa on Tuesday.

The Cougars, who remain perfect on the season at 7-0-0, received a pair of goals from Bridget Brotherton and Theresa Broad to lead the way in the GSAC opener for both squads.

The Eagles fall to 4-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.

Azusa got on the board early in the first half as Broad scored in the 14th minute to give APU a 1-0 lead.

Biola rallied, however, and peppered the Azusa net with four shots after the initial goal, but was unable to find the back of the net. The game went to halftime with the Cougars clinging to a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, though, Azusa came out firing, as Brotherton scored 26 seconds in, to extend the lead to 2-0.

Then, just 40 seconds later, Broad picked up her second goal to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage.

Azusa went on to add two more goals later in the period and held the Eagles to just one shot in the second half. Overall, the shot count was 27-6.

Biola returns home for its GSAC home opener on Saturday (Sept. 30) against Concordia at 5:00 p.m. on Al Barbour Field.
