LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior outside hitter Brittany Wing pounded out a match-high 13 kills and added 13 digs to help No. 19-ranked Biola University to a 30-18, 30-25, 30-16 win over San Diego Christian College on Tuesday night.
The Eagles, who have now won three straight matches, run their record to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in GSAC play. The Hawks have dropped nine straight and are 1-9 and 0-7 in the conference.
Biola struggled with San Diego Christian at the start of the first two games before pulling away late.
In the first game, Biola was down 14-11near the midway point before sophomore Kristen Peterson served 11 straight points to pave the way to the win.
In game two, the Eagles were again down early, trailing 13-11 before Peterson served four straight points to give Biola a lead it would never relinquish.
The Eagles got a boost from junior Caroline Rutenbar in game three as the outside hitter served seven straight points to give Biola an 18-9 lead en route to the easy victory.
Freshman Abbie Wright, who was named the GSAC Setter of the Week yesterday, recorded 39 assists, six kills and eight digs on the night.
Sophomore Meghan Scheenstra, who played only in game one, recorded six kills and three digs.
Biola travels down to San Diego on Saturday (Sept. 30) for a key GSAC match-up with No. 15 Point Loma Nazarene. The Eagles and the Sea Lions are tied in the conference standings at 4-3.
