LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Meghan Scheenstra had a match-high 21 kills and
Kristen Peterson recorded a season-best 11 kills in just 18 attempts to lead Biola to a 30-20, 30-19, 31-29 sweep over GSAC foe Westmont College Saturday night.
The Eagles improve to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in GSAC play with the victory while the Warriors fall to 4-6 and 2-4 in conference action.
Biola took over a close first game with a 9-2 run midway through and cruised to an easy 30-20 win.
Game two proved to be a near-copy of the first as a 12-4 run broke up a 6-6 tie.
Westmont came alive in game three and looked as though it would extend the match, leading 15-12 at the midway point. However, a late rally by the Eagles tied the score at 26. A few serves later, Biola was serving for the match at 29-27 but the Warriors rallied back to tie it at 29.
But Peterson took things over, regaining the lead with a kill, then serving a tough ball on match-point which set up Kelsey Mitchell for the match-winning kill.
Peterson had by far the best game of her collegiate career, with 11 kills, four blocks and an ace. Her 11 kills came in 18 attacks, good for a .611 hitting percentage.
Freshman setter Abbie Wright contributed 40 assists, 14 digs, two blocks and four kills in as many attempts.
Biola outhit the Warriors .306-.185 and held an 11-4 edge in blocks.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 26) for a home match with GSAC opponent San Diego Christian at 7:00 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium.
