Mitchell Leads Eagles to 5-1 Win Over Westminster

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola men's soccer team continued its walk through its pre-conference schedule with a 5-1 blowout win over Westminster College (UT) on Friday night on Al Barbour Field in La Mirada.

The Eagles (4-0-0) were led by Keir Mitchell, a freshman from Dunfermilne, Scotland, who scored a pair of goals and added an assist.

Mitchell goals were the first two of his young collegiate career and they came early in the first half. Mitchell found the ball amidst a host of defenders near the goal mouth and blasted it into the back of the net to open the scoring in the sixth minute.

Just under three minutes later, Mitchell followed a missed attempt by a teammate with another rocket past the helpless keeper.

Westminster got a goal back in the 34th minute as Nic Tucker headed home a great cross off the foot of Tommy Mitchell.

Just moments after the second half began, Kasey Dunn stretched the lead back to two with a strong finish off an absolutely magnificent cross by Mitchell.

The Eagles got a pair of late insurance goals in the 89th and 90th minutes. Shalom Bako took advantage of a misplayed ball by the Westminster defense and tapped home the Eagles' fourth goal of the night.

Then, with just eight seconds remaining, senior J.T. Searles scored off a free kick from 30 yards out.

The Eagles have now scored at least three goals in each of their four matches this year and hold an overall scoring edge of 15-2.

Biola returns to action on Friday (Sept. 22) for a home match with Cal State San Marcos.
