LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Two standout pitchers from the Biola baseball team were selected in the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft held Tuesday and Wednesday.

Left-hander Kevin Fox (Chula Vista/UC Irvine) was picked in the 15th round of the draft by the Houston Astros and right-hander Garet Hill (Chino/Don Lugo HS) was chosen in the draft's 24th round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

"There has always been a great need for left-handed pitchers that can get big league hitters out. The Astros have made it very clear from the beginning of the season that they felt Kevin had the talent to become a major league pitcher."

Hill, an All-Golden State Athletic Conference selection as a junior and senior, was a four-year started at Biola. He ended his Eagle career with a record of 30-7, the best winning percentage and second-best win total in school history. In addition, Hill recorded 287 strikeouts, placing him at No. 4 on the all-time list at Biola.

Hill returned for his senior season at Biola after being selected in the 49th round of the 2005 draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. "Garet truly deserves an opportunity to prove himself at the next level," said Coach Verhoeven. "He had four great years for me at Biola and worked his tail off to become a major league prospect. I believe he will have a great summer pitching his first season of professional baseball."
