The Biola University Women's Basketball program proudly announces the verbal commitment made by Orange County prep star, Chelsea Deluca, on Wednesday. Deluca played three varsity seasons at Calvary Chapel High School in Santa Ana, where she led her team to the CIF quarterfinals this season.
She will join the growing list of players who graduated from Calvary Chapel. That list includes Lindsey Richelli and Rochelle Crawford. Her team finished with a 21-8 record. She led her Calvary Chapel team in scoring (17.1 ppg), 3FG (57), steals (148) and assists (163) and was second in rebounds with 7.1 rpg.
After receiving letters from numerous programs around the nation, including D1, DII and NAIA schools, Deluca chose to commit to Biola. The 5-7 guard from Yorba Linda had an impressive 4.3 gpa in high school and she plans on being part of the Torrey Honors Program at Biola. She has been a part of Biola since the sixth grade when she joined the Star program to enhance her education.
Deluca participated on various travel teams throughout her high school career including an Adidas travel squad, which boasts some of the most talented high school prospects.
“We are excited to have Chelsea because she has not only competed at the small school level but she has also played with the nations elite prospects…she has the small town feel but can compete on the big stage. She will be the first of the upcoming recruiting class to help us take this program to the next level,” said women's head basketball coach, Ken Crawford.
Deluca said she is happy to be joining a school with a program and coach that is committed to building a strong program as well as being able to get a solid education that is spiritually based.
Her father and high school assistant coach, Mike Deluca, echoed her thoughts by saying, “her mother and I are excited to see coming here, we have always seen her in this program…we are glad that she will not only be able to play basketball for a good program but also get a good education.”
Deluca has also been involved in the community, as she spends her free time with disabled veterans at the local hospitals.
