Biola Escapes In Overtime At Concordia

Despite shooting over 60% from the field on the night, it was a clutch free throw with three seconds remaining in regulation by junior guard Solomon Mercado that sent the game to OT where Biola held on for the 83-81 win over Concordia in Irvine Friday night.

It was as much of a see-saw game as you could imagine as Concordia (16-13, 9-10 GSAC) led by as many as six in the second half only to see Biola (19-10, 11-8) take a five-point with under ten minutes to play.

Biola trailed by one after Levi Luster connected on a jumper with just 14 seconds to go in regulation. Mercado attempted a game-tying shot with only four seconds left only to get it swatted out of bounds by Luster. On the subsequent inbounds play, Mercado drew the foul with only one second having elapsed and made the second free throw after missing the first to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, Biola connected on three of its four field goals and six of 10 free throws to hang on to the two-point.

Biola's dynamic duo of Brandon Warner and Spencer Foster again notched over 23 points apiece. Warner had a game-high 25 points on 11 of 1 shooting to go with six rebounds and three blocks while Foster grabbed 23 on eight of ten from the field with seven rebounds.

Luster did all he could to nearly single-handedly keep Concordia in it with his team-high 22 points, six assists, five rebounds and four blocks. Victor Nance also did his part by nailing four three's off the bench as part of his 16-point and five rebounds performance.

Biola will finish the GSAC's regular season on Monday night at home at 7:30 against California Baptist University.
