BOX SCORE
CLAREMONT, Calif. --– Junior Danny Jones had 25 points to lead Biola to a 95-89 victory over Pomona-Pitzer College in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium in Claremont.
Jones was unstoppable for the Eagles (6-2), going 11-of-14 from the field and adding seven rebounds and as many assists. He was one of five players to score in double-digits for Biola.
The Eagles shot 63 percent from the field and scored 95 points, but the game was still close thanks to 17 three-pointers by the Sagehens (5-2).
David Knowles had 28 points to lead Pomona-Pitzer and Adam Chaimowitz added 23 points off the bench. The pair combined to hit 11 of the team's shots from beyond the arc with Jabarri Reynolds contributing four additional treys.
The two teams played things close to the vest in the first half with Biola taking a 44-40 lead to the half. In the second, Biola was able to pull away a bit thanks to some hot shooting of its own.
The Eagles built their lead to 85-69 with just over five minutes to go and led by 15 with just over four minutes remaining before the Hens' full court trap forced three straight turnovers. Pomona-Pitzer closed the gap to five on the run at 88-83, but would get no closer despite a number of uncharacteristic free throw misses by Biola down the stretch.
In addition to Jones' hot hand, the Eagles received 16 points each from seniors Spencer Foster and Kevin Cook while fellow senior Matt Emadi added 15 of his own. Another senior, Lafayette Lofton had 12 points including a number of clutch free throws in the games' waning minutes.
Biola nearly matched Pomona-Pitzer's effort from beyond the arc, hitting 13-of-21 from three-point range with Emadi and Cook knocking down four each.
The Eagles travel to the Great Northwest next week to face Lewis-Clark State on Dec. 15 and Whitman College on Dec. 16.
