LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Rachel Dulin scored 17 points and led a barrage of three-pointers in the game by drilling four from beyond the arc to lead Biola to a 69-61 non-conference win over Dixie State College of Utah Friday night at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.
The Eagles improve to 5-4 overall with the victory while the Rebels fall to 5-4.
The two teams found great success from three-point range on the evening with Biola hitting on 10-of-25 threes while Dixie was 12-of-31 from beyond the arc.
Dulin finished the game hitting 6-for-8 from the field including 4-of-6 from three-point land for a team-high 17 points--12 of which came in a pivitol second half run. She also added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
Sophomore Megann Alberts scored 15 points--nine from the free-throw line--and pulled down 11 boards including four key defensive rebounds in the final two minutes.
Despite Dixie shooting 48-percent in the first half, Biola hung tough with its defense and strong shooting. The Eagles forced 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes and looked to take a lead into the locker room before Tiara Bowman hit a three at the buzzer to give the Rebels a 31-29 edge.
In the second, Biola came out with a 17-2 run keyed by three quick treys from Dulin in the first 90 seconds. The Eagles maintained that lead and held a 60-49 edge with 3:21 to go before Dixie made its final charge.
The Rebels pulled to within four after Lindsey Chettinger drilled a three with 40 seconds to go, but Alberts was 6-for-6 from the line down the stretch to seal the deal for Biola.
Bowman had a game-high 19 points for Dixie State, though she also turned the ball over eight times. Liz Lewis added 13 points and had four assists in the losing effort.
Biola hosts the old folks--the women's basketball alumni--in an exhibition game on Saturday, December 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium. The Eagles next counter comes after Christmas as they travel to Golden, Colorado, to play in the Colorado School of Mines Holiday Classic, Dec. 29-30.
