THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- California Lutheran University started the second half on an 18-5 run to break open a close game en route to a 67-58 victory over Biola University in a non-conference women's basketball game Wednesday night in Thousand Oaks.
The Eagles, who drop to 4-4 on the season, were led by the 23 points and 14 rebounds of sophomore Megann Alberts. The NCAA Division III Regals improved to 2-3 on the season and had four players score in double-figures led by Mary Placido, who had 13 points off the bench.
Biola played strong in the first half, posting a 13-2 run to take a seven-point lead at 23-16 with just over eight minutes to play before halftime. But CLU slowly chipped away and managed to send the game to the locker room tied at 30.
In the second half, the Regals came out firing, breaking open the game with the afore mentioned 13-point run over the first seven minutes. The Eagles manged to close the gap to five on three occasions, but could get no closer.
California Lutheran was able to use a 54-36 edge in rebounds to its advantage despite turning over the ball 20 times.
Biola also received 12 points, three assists and a steal from point guard Rachel Dulin.
The Eagles return home for another non-conference game, this time facing NCAA Division II Dixie State of Utah on Friday (Dec. 8) at 7:00 p.m.
