GOLDEN, Colo. --- The Biola women's basketball team played a strong first 20 minutes but struggled in the second half, falling 63-46 to Colorado School of Mines in the first game of the CSM Holiday Classic in Golden, Colorado.
Sophomore Megann Alberts led the Eagles with 15 points, though they drop to 5-5 on the season. It was the fourth straight victory for Mines--an NCAA Division II school--after opening the season with six losses.
Leading the way for the Orediggers was Iva Tomova, who scored 29 points off the bench. Emily Dalton added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Biola played well in the first half, shooting 50 percent from the field and leading by as many as seven before settling for a 27-27 tie at intermission.
In the second half, though, the wheels fell off. Mines jumped out to a quick six point lead before Biola hit its first shot. After narrowing the gap to four at 37-33, Mines then went on a 14-1 run to blow open the game.
The Eagles hit just six of 22 shots in the second half and were outrebounded 29-8 in final 20 minutes.
Biola closes out the Holiday Classic with another game against an NCAA Division II school, taking on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
