BOX SCORE

CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Biola's women's basketball team used a second half rally to come from behind and beat Pomona-Pitzer 58-53 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Voelekel Gymnasium in Claremont.

Sophomore Megann Alberts led the Eagles with 13 points to help Biola move back above .500 at 4-3 overall.

Pomona-Pitzer, which dropped to 2-4 on the season, received 13 points from Deirdre Chew and another 11 points from Christina Hwang added 11.

Biola had trouble inside with Pomona-Pitzer's larger players. The Eagles wer outrebounded 58-37 overall and gave up 23 offensive rebounds, but managed to make up for the lack of size by forcing 28 turnovers.

In the first half, Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a quick six-point lead at 10-4 just six minutes into the game, but Biola came right back to tie the score at 10 just four minutes later. The two teams continued to go back-and-forth the rest of the half with junior Mandi England drilling a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 22 going into halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer again came out quick in the second half, taking a pair of five-point leads, the last at 37-32 at the 11:35 mark. However, Biola's defense stepped up and forced 11 turnovers over the next 10 minutes. The Eagles then went on a run of their own to take a 48-41 lead and Pomona-Pitzer wouldn't get within two points the rest of the game.

Biola spread out its offensive production with 11 of its 12 players scoring at least one point in the game. Junior Jill Schiffelbein had eight points for the Eagles with freshman Micaela Sulham and senior Rachel Dulin adding six points each.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 6) for another non-conference game, this time traveling to face California Lutheran University at 6:00 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
