LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University women's soccer coach Mike Silzer announced that goalkeeper Lauren Gregston, a standout netminder from Lake Forest, has committed to playing soccer for the Eagles starting in 2007.

Gregston is just beginning her final season of high school soccer at El Toro High School but has gained national attention for her play on one of California's top club teams, FC Slammers of Newport Beach.

"Lauren is one of the top goalkeepers in her age group. I am very excited to add her to our roster," said Silzer. "She is a very talented player who loves the game of soccer and most importantly loves the Lord."

During her six seasons with the Slammers, her teams have won a pair of United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) National titles, a US Club Soccer National Championship as well as numerous state and regional titles. In addition, she earned the Adidas Golden Glove Award for the Best Goalkeeper at the USYSA National Championships in 2003.

Recently, Gregston made eight saves to lead the Slammers to a 1-0 victory over the US U16 Girls National Team in the Nike Friendlies match in September.

The Slammers FC program turns out a number of top-ranked prospects with eight other members of the team going on to play at NCAA Division I schools. Gregston, however, turned down similar offers from DI schools to play at Biola.

In her three seasons thus far at El Toro High School, Gregston has been recognized as one of the best players in the South Coast League (now the Sea View League). She has twice been named a member of the All-SCL Team and has been is entering her second season as a team captain.

Biola was 7-6-3 overall in 2006, just missing out on a playoff berth.
